Career history
I studied medicine at Emmanuel College, Cambridge and St Thomas' Hospital, London before qualifying from Cambridge in 1992. I went on to complete specialist training in allergy, immunology and infectious diseases at Southampton General Hospital and Great Ormond Street Hospital.
My academic career started with a PhD investigating early life factors that may influence the development of allergy. I now have a lead role in medical education research at the University of Newcastle. I also have a keen interest in teaching and training. I am the course lead for a new online allergy module at the University of Newcastle and am the allergy representative for the specialty training committee at the Royal College of Paediatrics & Child Health, as well as the subspecialty representative on the Education & Quality Training Committee.
I have an interest in all aspects of paediatric allergy, including children with complex, multi-system conditions.
I am the lead for the immunotherapy service at the Great North Children's Hospital, where we offer both injection and tablet/oral drop desensitisation for pollen and house dust mite allergy.
